The game got under way and Demba Bar fired a warning shot to the Hammers on 6 minutes.
Then it was James Collins turn to volley over the bar of Petr Cech on 7 minutes.
Chelsea started to push forward with attacking play, finding West Ham’s penalty area with relative ease.
Andy Carroll started to get physical with David Luiz, letting his presence be felt.
Ramires then brings down Jarvis on 11 minutes and the Hammers earn a free kick but no yellow card to the Chelsea player.
The young Spaniard Azpilicueta was having a good game and Demba Bar is not having too much luck, shooting wide again from a cross from the right.
West Ham get a fright from Collins as he diving heads the ball into the arms of Jussi which could have been embarrassing.
Chelsea got a free kick and Juan Mata floated one in. As the ball came out, Vaz Té headed it back to Chelsea – that could have proved dangerous.
15 mins were gone and Gary Cahil was receiving treatment on the pitch. John Terry started warming up at the West Ham end much to the delight of the Hammers’ fans. Cahil came back on….crisis over.
Eden Hazard then made a great run in the centre of the pitch.
Hazard was making himself busy and had a shot outside the area that didn’t cause Jussi any problems. The ball was flying about and came back to Hazard who floated one across to Lampard who put the ball over Jussi’s head on 18 minutes. It was Lampard’s 5th goal against West Ham and his 5th goal in his last 7 games.
It also happened to be Frank Lampard’s 200th goal in a Blues’ shirt.
Carroll got a chance and David Luiz went down very easily. Carroll put a hand on him yes, but it wasn’t a foul and the goal was not given. Obviously Luiz didn’t fancy the jump with Carroll. Carroll’s a big lad!
The Hammers have only scored 9 times in 15 away games and they needed to show Chelsea that they weren’t going to roll over. But West Ham started to find themselves under pressure now.
25 minutes gone and Carroll headed wide from a Jarvis cross from the left.
27 minutes into the match and Diame brought down Frank Lampard just outside the box. Luiz drove one in low and Jussi palmed it away for a corner kick.
Diame was then lucky not to be booked on 29 minutes for a foul on Ramires.
Another dodgy decision as Azpilicueta goes down too easily to leave Jarvis to have a one on one with Cech. The ref blew and a free kick was given to Chelsea.
Chelsea then went on the counter attack and Hazard drove another ball at Jussi. Hazard was having a good game.
Chelsea was threatening now and Moses put the ball to Jussi’s right – a yard past the post.
Chelsea was continuing to push up and David Luiz crossed from the left and Mata fired wide, much to Jussi’s relief.
Demel then gave a silly free kick away. Mata drilled it in and it came out to Luiz whose left foot volley went into the side netting to Jussi’s left.
West Ham threatened at the other end and failed to find the net. Diame wanted more time on the ball and it was eventually cleared. How much time do you need to score!
Demba Bar then missed a golden opportunity just before the break, shooting at Jussi with the ball hitting the keeper’s leg.
Moses then put Demba Bar through with a sweet pass in the centre of the pitch and Bar failed to deliver for Chelsea again. How many chances did Bar want?
Vaz Té had a chance just outside the box and fired low at Cech, but he had it covered.
It was a great first half and it wasn’t all Chelsea’s way.
Second half got under way and it was more of the same. But it wasn’t to last too long.
On 50 minutes, Eden Hazard put the blues 2 up. Hazard played a nice one-two with Juan Mata, before taking the ball on his chest and skipping beyond James Collins, then captain Winston Reid, and finishing low into the corner of the net – a quality goal from Hazard.
Chelsea then appealed for handball on 69 minutes but the ref was not interested.
On 70 minutes there was a cynical pullback by Winston Reid on Juan Mata – he took one for the team I suppose.
Frank Lampard then struck a 35 hard free kick that got a deflection, which made it easier for Jussi to handle. Close call.
Demel then clipped Hazard to join Reid in the ref’s book. Chelsea got another free kick that amounted to nothing from David Luiz. Luiz seemed to want to take all free kicks for some reason.
The Hammers were now struggling to keep a hand on this game as Hazard fired in another warning shot.
77 minutes into the game and John Terry came on replacing a limping David Luiz.
81 minutes and Chelsea had this one in the bag although it wasn’t the first time Chelsea threw away a 2 nil lead, was it?
83 minutes Carlton Cole warned Chelsea but his shot didn’t bother Czech too much with his effort.
85 minutes and Benitez made his last change – Mikel for Mata.
Oscar drove a lovely cross in on 86 minutes across the face of the box and Lampard failed to deliver. He doesn’t usually miss those. This was Lamps 595th appearance for Chelsea today, by the way.
The game was winding up now and Chelsea looked to be well and truly in the driving seat with another shot from hazard being saved by Jussi. It was a great save as the ball was deflected to send the keeper the wrong way.
A late corner from Jarvis and Carroll connected well with a header that went over.
That was it, game over and Chelsea move into 3rd place. It was always going to be hard to beat a Chelsea side like this.
