Arsenal closing in on West Ham player Diame

West Ham United are expected to lose Mo Diame to Arsenal if reports from Goal.com are to be believed.

Arsene Wenger is looking to run his eye over Diame in person when West Ham United visit Arsenal on Wednesday, the game was originally scheduled to take place on Boxing Day but was rescheduled due to tube strikes.

Mo Diame

Talking at a media briefing on Tuesday morning Wenger said about Diame:

He has a great presence in the games, I have seen him have a big impact

Wenger and his scouts have been closely monitoring Diame’s fitness since he returned to first-team action last week playing 65 minutes in the FA Cup defeat at Manchester United and then a full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with QPR last Saturday.

West Ham United have been looking to negotiate a new contract with Diame, who has been a revelation since he joined on a free transfer in the summer, and raise his current £3.5M release clause to something more appropriate for a player of his calibre, perhaps in the region of £9M, however all attempts so far to get the Senegal international to sign a new deal have failed.

Diame would be a huge loss for West Ham and if he does go then the future of Alou Diarra, who earlier complained about his lack of games, becomes even more important.
