West Ham defender Joey O’Brien has signed a new deal with the Hammers to keep him at the club until 2016.
The Irons have confirmed that Big Sam Allardyce will keep faith with the player he brought in from Bolton in 2011 for another three years.
West Ham United announced the news on their official Twitter feed:
“West Ham United are pleased to announce that Joey O’Brien has signed a new contract with the club until summer 2016.”
26 year-old O’Brien has played 16 times in the Premier League this season and also has 5 international caps to his name with the Republic of Ireland. O’Brien was also part of last year’s Hammer squad that was promoted to the Premiership.
Joey O’Brien has made 70 appearances in all competitions over seven years at Bolton, including playing in the Europa League.
The 26 year-old has also had a few loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday whilst at Bolton and picked up a serious knee injury before he was sold to West Ham.
He has also scored twice for the Hammers this season and we can expect more from him we think. He’s quite a versatile player who is happy either in the defence or in a midfield role.
