West Ham had a torrid (mildly put!) start to the 2017/18 season and replaced Slaven Bilic with David Moyes at the beginning of November 2017 on a six-month contract to salvage their season. The Hammers have been in the PL since 2011/12 and will be hoping for Moyes to preserve their top flight status for a seventh consecutive season. The festive season is often a decisive period for most clubs, with the crammed fixture list testing the squad depth of most teams and injuries taking their toll. [Read more…]
Hammers confirm Evra signing- former United defender to wear No.27 jersey
West Ham United have officially confirmed the signing of Patrice Evra on a free transfer. The French defender has inked a short term deal that will keep him at the London Stadium till the end of the 2017/18 seasn. He is expected to compete for a spot along with Aaron Cresswell, who has been employed both as part of a flat back three and as left wing back, and the suspended Arthur Masuaku, who will miss the next four games owing to his ban for spitting at Nick Powell.
The move reunites Evra with David Moyes, his former manager at Manchester United, although the move will come as a surprise to some given that the two didn’t exactly part on happy terms.
The 36 year old Evra was a free agent after having had his contract terminated by French club Marseille in November for an altercation with a fan. His actions also earned him a UEFA ban, but that does not affect his participation in domestic competitions like the Premier League. [Read more…]
From Lawro to Merson to Owen- Pundit predictions for Brighton v West Ham
Brighton will be looking to do a league double over West Ham when they take on the Hammers at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Seagulls, winless in 2018 in the league, beat Slaven Bilic’s side 3-0 in the reverse fixture at the London Stadium earlier this season. However the visitors, now managed by David Moyes, became the first West Ham side since 1974 to go the first five games of the calendar year unbeaten after their 1-1 draw in midweek against Palace.
How do the pundits think Brighton v West Ham will finish?
Mark Lawrenson at the BBC reckons Brighton will take this game 2-1 and pick up their first league win of the year. His celebrity opponents for this week, Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and Redskins cornerback Josh Norman, have however tipped the Hammers to win 1-0 and join Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City in the small list of teams to have triumphed at the Amex in the Premier League this season. Javier Hernandez admits to wanting to leave in January, will re-assess situation in summer
West Ham’s Mexican striker Javier Hernandez has admitted that he did consider the possibility of leaving the club in the recently concluded winter transfer window. Hernandez has struggled to impress at the London Stadium since his summer switch from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen- perhaps not so much his fault individually but rather that of the system around him; he’s not a striker you’d want if your strategy is playing long balls into the box and his effectiveness is reduced by half when he is employed on the wing, as was done earlier in the season. All being said though, his returns have been meagre and with the lack of consistent playing time in east London, he revealed that he was worried for his spot in Mexico’s World Cup squad.
The 29 year old has scored five times in 24 appearances across all competitions for West Ham this season [Read more…]
Brighton v West Ham preview- Roger East takes charge for first time since Doucoure handball controversy
West Ham will seek to become the first team outside the top four to win at the AMEX Stadium in the Premier League this weekend when they take on Chris Hughton’s Brighton on Saturday afternoon. This will also be referee Roger East’s first top flight game in charge following his controversial decision to allow Abdoulaye Doucoure’s late handball equaliser in the Watford v Southampton fixture last month.
