Carabao Cup Second Round Draw- West Ham to play Cheltenham Town away

West Ham will play their second round EFL Cup game away at Cheltenham. The Hammers were originally supposed to host the fixture, but received special dispensation to play the game away owing to the time required to get the London Stadium back in shape after the World Athletics Championships.

The Hammers will therefore have to pay Cheltenham compensation, as receipts from EFL Cup clashes are shared 50-50 and the 54,000 strong London Stadium would obviously attract a larger crowd than CTFC’s Whaddon Road, which can accommodate around 7,000 spectators.

The draws were regionalised to ensure Newport County (who also received a dispensation similar to WHUFC owing to issues with their Rodney Parade ground) and the Hammers did not draw each other. Newport will play their fixture away at Elland Road against Leeds.

The two teams met in the same tournament four years ago, with West Ham emerging narrow 2-1 winners.
