West Ham to offer Carlton Cole short-term deal

Despite releasing Carlton Cole in the summer, he will be seen back in a West Ham shirt after news that the East club will offer him a short-term contract.

The 29 year old found the net on 59 occasions in 237 appearances for the Hammers and has been training with his former club in a bid to find his fitness. Once fit, Cole will be offered a deal.

Big Sam told West Ham United’s official website: “As soon as he’s fit enough to play there will be an offer of a short-term contract on the table,”

“As soon as he’s OK and suitable terms have been agreed, then he’ll join us.”

Before his summer departure, Carlton Cole, who has been capped seven time by England, spent seven years at the Boleyn Ground.

When the Hammers released Carlton Cole last May, Sam Allardyce noted at the time: “Carlton’s need at his age is to be playing football as often as he can. We felt it better he found pastures new.”

But as the Hammers strike options dried and Andy Carroll picked up his foot injury at the end of last season, Cole quickly re-emerged as a possible option to help West Ham out due to their forward options being “thin on the ground” to say the least.

Allardyce finished up by saying: “He’s been here on a day-by-day basis and one of the beauties of this football club is that this club’s kept him fit for a long time during his career.

“We’ll play a couple of behind closed doors games just to let him get some match practice and then we’ll take it from there.”

Despite Cole’s “faux pas” of not being fit in the first place, it will be nice to get the ex claret and blue star back within the fold. The Hammers desperately need some finishing power upfront and that could be provided by the ex star.

Could this be the second coming of Carlton Cole? What do you think: Good to have him back or tough it out with what we’ve got?

About Stevo

Stevo can remember going to games with his Dad and seeing the likes of Clyde Best of all people. He also has a few mates who have “done” complete seasons too – and that was when the Irons were in division one. That’s every home and away game – unbelievable! Stevo plans to do this himself next season!
