Carlton Cole looks like being Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway’s knight in shining armour as he is inches from signing the striker on a one-year deal.
Holloway lamented the turmoil in the transfer market last week and the ex West Ham United player could put a smile on the Crystal Palace manager’s face if he lands him.
Carlton Cole’s contract finished earlier this summer and will head off to Selhurst Park on a free transfer. Cole is expected to undergo a medical tomorrow at the club.
Ian Holloway recently lamented the transfer market situation and sees the signing of Carlton Cole as a breath of fresh air.
“I am finding out how even more difficult it is compared to last time because of the zillions of extra quid that everybody’s got. Everybody’s asking for all sorts of things and it is almost ridiculous to get a deal done,” said the Crystal Palace manager.
Cole had been linked with Turkish outfit Besiktas as well as premier League new boys Hull City and if Holloway lands his man, it will be a weight lifted off his shoulders.Carlton Cole has plenty of experience to offer Holloway’s side regarding Premier League football as he knocked in 47 goals in 227 appearances for the Irons.
Palace striker Glenn Murray’s injury provides ex Hammer Cole with the opportunity to make an immediate impact at Selhurst Park, but he’ll also face some tough competition from Kevin Phillips, who the club signed on a one-year contract just last week.
Goaty says it all great guy poor striker and will hope he does well at palace
Good luck to the bloke. Must’ve broken his heart to leave. I’ll always give him warm applause when he returns. He was extremely committed and always gave his all for the team – not to mention his taking a drop in wages to help the club out when we were relegated.
All round decent fella.
