Will Nolan Be Key To Ravel Season?

Ravel Morrison arrived at West Ham United back in January 2012 in a deadline day deal from Manchester United with a reputation of having bags of natural talent and potential.

However, it soon became apparent Morrison was in danger of wasting his precocious talent with a series of off the field incidents and Twitter storms following him round like a bad smell.

West Ham United fans though, me included, were still looking forward to seeing this hugely talented midfield player grace The Boleyn Ground with some silky skills which had been missing since the days of Di Canio and a young Joe Cole and possibly and in form Yossi Benayoun.

Ravel Morrison

Morrison was not really seen that season in The Championship bar a solitary substitute appearance, although it was clear that West Ham were crying out for some creativity in some of those matches to help unlock some stubborn defences.

Last season though Morrison was loaned out to Championship outfit Birmingham City in what would appear to be a last resort to get Morrison playing regularly and concentrating on football.

It looks to have worked out perfectly as Morrison had a good season making 30 appearances and scoring 3 goals for the blues and has come back to West Ham seemingly more focused and ready to push for a place in the first team.

Kevin Nolan Factor

Captain Kevin Nolan has been heaping praise on Morrison recently, speaking highly of his ability while also suggesting he feels he has a key role to play in Morrison’s future.

Nobby has been a fabulous leader for West Ham since joining from Newcastle, the team spirit and togetherness that he has brought to the club has been fantastic, you can see a much closer knit of players than under previous regimes and Nolan has had a huge part to play in this.

Speaking to WHUFC.com Nolan said:

The lad has got ability.

It was all the off-field stuff and his mental attitude to the game and I think he has come back with a renewed approach.

Hopefully now this will be the start of what is going to be a fantastic career for him, because as you can see he has great ability and can score goals too.

I’m going to help him as much as I can this season, talking to him on the pitch and off the pitch.

If he can get it all right, he’ll be a top player for years to come.

Andy Carroll is a glowing example of the effect Kevin Nolan’s guidance can have on a player, Carroll was having a difficult time up in Newcastle and Nolan took Carroll under his wing and from the outside this looked to have had a really positive effect on Carroll and helped him turn things around.

Hopefully the Nolan factor will come into play with Morrison and we will begin to see what a top player Ravel can be this season.
