West Ham to cull the squad

Reports coming out in the media today suggest West Ham are getting ready for a clear out of players to offset the signing of Andy Carroll from Liverpool.

The Sun is suggesting that £12 million worth of talent is on its way out of The Boleyn Ground.

Ricardo Vaz Te, Modibo Maiga, Matt Taylor and Alou Diarra are being  listed as the casualties of the clear out.

Matt Taylor in my eyes has been poor since signing for West Ham United back in 2011, I was expecting pin point crosses and excellent set pieces along with the odd wonder goal, but for some reason it just hasn’t happened for him and even though I am no fan of Gary O’Neil I think I would have preferred to have seen Taylor go before O’Neil.

Alou Diarra is a strange one, he signed for us after being France’s stand out player at the World Cup last year and I thought he was going to be an excellent player for us, but Diarra never really threatened the first team and from what I gathered from the club was that he was injured, however Diarra came out and had a moan saying he was fine and was not sure why he wasn’t playing. I still think he has something to offer West Ham, but I guess you can’t miss someone you never really saw play!

Modibo Maiga cost West Ham a fair bit of cash – rumoured to be £4.7 million – when he signed for The Hammers, being a 24-year-old Mali international he had pedigree as a goal scorer, and even though when he has played he has looked lively and scored some nice goals it appears Sam Allardyce doesn’t really fancy him. If we do get rid of Maiga along with Vaz Te and the already departed Carlton Cole it will leave us with just one striker in the form of Andy Carroll, so either one of these players are not going or Sam has his eye on several other forwards.

Vaz Te

Ricardo Vaz Te was amazing for us in The Championship when he signed from Barnsley in the January transfer window, and who can forget his play off final goal that sealed our return to The Premier League? However, Vaz Te has struggled with life in the top table of English football and Allardyce may decide to jog on the Portuguese forward.

I won’t be in tears if we lose any of these players, especially if it can free up some funds for higher quality players. I do feel though that Maiga could score goals for us if he was given the chance.

What do you guys think?

  1. Reckon Taylor and Vaz Te will be on their way. T’other two will stay to play a big part in a strong midfield.

  2. I am glad that we got Andy Carroll but sorry we have to lose Vaz Te especially how he helped us in the Championship play-off but perhaps we have a chance of getting Demba Ba back or even Lukaku.

  3. Philtheiron says

The only thing keeping Vaz te at the club was his form when getting us up, the goal! and that he is the only player to give us balance on the right! Even then he was poor last season. Doesn’t say much when the only time you noticed him was when he wasn’t there and not for what he did when he was! If we are to progress and be a bigger and better club then unfortunately players like the four mentioned above have to be sacrificed in the name of progress! COYI!

  4. still don’t like sams thinking

i would give maiga the chance but tbh half the time when he came on it was either half decent or he looked clueless and his runs seem half hearted. imo if he was any good someone coming off the bench would be determined to make a point, therefore disagree with his mental strength which i imagine to be the reason why he isnt a starting player. so id try and recoup the money for these players and try and sign victor moses ho is a proven premier league player, someone who chelsea would be willing to sell as mourinho cannot let him drop further down the pecking order and someone who would be ideal for us due to his athleticism, versatility and goal threat

  6. Id like us to keep miaga i think hes got quality given the chance ..the rest i wont shed no tears over

Maynard and Baldock, along with Sears, Stanislas,Hines and Edgar made the mistake of not being good enough! Not exactly set the world alight since leaving have they? Give quality a chance, move championship players on!

  8. I hope Maiga stays as he always looks dangerous. Vaz Te, well like Taylor he flits in and out of games far too often to be off any use. O’Neil won’t be too much of a miss as he was more of a sub than first team starter. Hendo is also one for the chop due to the arrival of Adrian. He too will be better off in the Championship. I personally hope Sam starts to use Moncur, Potts, Spence, Morrison and a few other youth players as this will encourage the others to push on in training. Maybe we could then unearth a new Joe Cole!!

  9. Hang on guys we need some pace in our side and squad which l dont think we have getting rid of vas te and miaga might be a mistake unless we pick up other pacy players from other clubs or our youth

  10. Agree totally. What I struggle to understand with Big Sam is that the forwards he buys he never gives a chance. Maiga is one along with Maynard & Baldock.

I think Maynard and Baldock made the mistake of not being over 6 foot tall!

Maiga though looks like he could be handy! I just hope he doesn’t go to Newcastle and bang in 15-20 goals!
