Mexico became the first team to be knocked out of Copa America 2015 as they lost 2-0 to an Ecuadorean side which had West Ham’s Enner Valencia in their starting lineup. Valencia had a hand in the first goal scored by Miller Bolanos. His 26th minute shot was blocked and fell to Bolanos, who scored from close range.
Emelec striker Bolanos returned the favour twelve minutes after the interval, setting up Valencia for a decisive blow to Mexico’s hopes. The goal was Valencia’s second of the tournament, with the forward having also got on the scoresheet in the previous game against Bolivia. El Tri pulled one back from the penalty spot through Raul Jimenez, but it was not enough as Ecuador hung to claim all three points.

The win kept Ecuador’s Copa hopes alive after earlier losses to Chile and Bolivia had made this a do-or-die for the Amarillos. They’re still a long shot to qualify as one of the two best third place teams, but they do have a chance if other results go their way.
If Ecuador do not qualify, West Ham will expect to have Valencia available for their opening Europa League clash early next month.
