Hammers striker Diafra Sakho has vowed to put more balls into the back of the net next season. West Ham started off really well this season and one of my highlights was Sakho along with Valencia. A lot was put on the shoulders of these two young men and I think they came through with the goods.
Sakho’s move from French outfit Metz last season to east London was met with mixed opinions but the lad quickly became a firm favourite with the fans as he helped the Hammers secure a top four spot in the first half of the season. I loved the way he celebrated his goals with a “Hammer sign” to the crowds – magic!
The Senegal star has built up a great partnership with Ecuadorian star Enner Valencia and have managed to forge in no time at all a great striking duo. Sakho’s ability in front of goal has not gone amiss and has knocked in 12 goals this season – his first in English football.
Speaking on West Ham TV, Diafra Sakho said: “It’s been a successful season, even if I wanted to do better.
“But with all the injuries that I’ve had, it’s been a good one and it will enable me to score more next season.
“Even if my aim was to score a few more, it will help me next season to do everything to at least surpass 12 goals.
“The injuries have been a little bit frustrating, but the most important thing right now is our aim of finishing tenth.”
I feel that Sakho and Valencia have been two of West Ham’s best buys in recent seasons and next year will hopefully be a different story for the club as these two lads cement themselves as first team regulars.
