West Ham receive Carroll injury boost while Cole targets glory

West Ham United fans received a timely boost with news that the clubs record signing Andy Carroll should be fit for the start of the season.

Carroll, 24, was signed from Liverpool for 拢15 million but has been struggling with a heel injury he picked up in the last game of season, with no prognosis of when he would be strutting his stuff for West Ham.

Andy Carroll, West Ham strikerHowever, Sam Allardyce’s assistant manager Neil McDonald spilled the beans on Carroll’s progress in an interview with SkySports, after West Ham United turned Boreham Wood over 3-0 in the clubs second pre-season friendly.

McDonald told Sky Sports News: “He is well under way in his rehab, he is working hard on the training ground and we just have to be a little bit patient.

“The injury that he has is quite extensive and it takes time for the body to heal itself. He is doing everything he can to push on.

“He has been working really hard and there is still plenty of time for him to get himself fit for the start of the season.”

This is good news as I feared Carroll would miss the start of the season, with the club only having Maiga and Vaz Te who can play up front we are looking light on strikers, especially as both the aforementioned players have generally been utilized out on the wing when playing for West Ham.

Allardyce though is keenly aware of the need to bring in another quality striker, speaking to TalkSport our manager said:

Certainly another front man would be imperative to us. After that we would be OK, unless something else turned up that was sparkling to make us better.

Joe Cole looking for silverware

West Ham United winger Joe Cole, 31, showed he isn’t just happy to finish his days playing for the club he started his career with and has ambitions to help West Ham lift some silverware while he is here.

Talking to SkySports Cole said: I think the ambition of the club at the moment is improvement.

But for me personally, I would love to finish better than 10th but I would love to take this club to Wembley.

At the end of the day, they are the days you remember in your career – it would be a massive achievement.

You look at Swansea and Wigan last season and that is their day, we would like a bit of that because it has been such a long time since West Ham have been there, so that would be nice.

It’s always nice to see players showing some ambition for West Ham to win things, and Cole is the second Hammer to target some silverware this year with Matt Jarvis also buoyed by Swansea and Wigan’s triumphs last season in the cup competitions.

Finally, it was nice to see Ravel Morrison in the team for last nights friendly and he managed to get to the score sheet to boot.

  1. Really great news about AC.

Good, positive, noises coming out of the club. Heard an interview with Neil McDonald on Tuesday night – liked what he had to say.

Also great to see Morrison get on the scoresheet for the 2nd game in a row. The lad looks a great prospect. Hope he fulfils it 馃檪 .

    COYI!

Your right about Morrison Gav as he looks the real deal, I remember when we signed him he was apparently the best English talent at that age since Gazza! If he can fulfil that potential in our midfield it could be magic as one thing we love at West Ham is a silky midfield player!
