West Ham have secured the services of central defender Winston Reid until 2015 after the New Zealander signed a new 2-year deal.
This is fantastic news for West Ham as Reid, along with James ‘Ginge’ Collins, has been outstanding in the heart of the West Ham defence this season and Reid will have to be in with a strong shout for West Ham’s Player of The Year Award.
Reid, 24, has been one of the players who has benefited most from the appointment of Sam Allardyce in my opinion as he has made great strides the last two seasons and under Allardyce’s eye has become an outstanding Premier League defender.
I think this is a fine bit of business by the West Ham board to get this deal done before the end of the season and the transfer rumour mill goes into overdrive with numerous clubs no doubt casting a watchful eye over the performances of Reid.
Reid moved to the Boleyn Ground in August 2010 after growing up in Denmark and playing five seasons for FC Midtjylland.
Speaking to WHUFC.com Reid said:
I’ve really enjoyed being here. It’s a good club and we’ve done really well over the last couple of years. Now, I’m looking forward to the next two years.
I think I have played some good football over the last two years but that goes for the whole team as well. Hopefully we can continue that.
Of course we now plan to build on the last two seasons.
Good on you Winston for getting a new deal and staying with the club that gave you a chance in English football.
