Hammers want Saints striker Rickie Lambert

West Ham United are planning a summer swoop for Southampton frontman Rickie Lambert.

30 year old Lambert is currently the highest scoring Englisman in the Premier League and rumours are linking the striker to  West Ham in a summer move.

The reasons for contracting the services of Lambert would probably be the fact that Andy Carroll, currently on loan from Liverpool, will return up north once the loan spell has ended in the summer. The Hammers would therefore need to strengthen their strikeforce and Lambert seems the ideal  man for the job.

It appears that Rickie Lambert is happy at Southampton and hinted that he wanted to end his career there. All that could change however if Saints were relegated and dropped back down into The Championship.

Last month, the Irons had a bid rejected by Southampton for the services of Rickie Lambert and therefore would be prepared to raise it at the end of the season.

Lambert is a big lad and just what the Hammers need up front. He has played for the following clubs before ending up at Saints: Blackpool, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers.

Rickie Lambert moved to Southampton in 2009 for a fee of £1 million and has been a key player in getting his team promoted twice – once in 2010 to the Championship, netting 21 goals and then promotion to the Premier League and top flight football after a 7 year absence netting a cool 27 goals.

Rickie Lambert has won the Golden Boot award in 3 of the last 4 seasons, and was named the Championship Player of the Year for the 2011–12 season.

This is what Allardyce wants, a guy who can find the back of the net. I think it’s a shame we have to wait for the summer.

About Stevo

Stevo can remember going to games with his Dad and seeing the likes of Clyde Best of all people. He also has a few mates who have “done” complete seasons too – and that was when the Irons were in division one. That’s every home and away game – unbelievable! Stevo plans to do this himself next season!
